The Annapurna Base Camp Trek, often referred to as the ABC Trek, is one of Nepal's most popular and classic trekking adventures. It leads you into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, a spectacular amphitheater of towering peaks, culminating at the base of the world's 10th highest mountain, Annapurna I (8,091m). This trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural encounters, and a manageable challenge for enthusiastic trekkers of all experience levels.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From there, the trail winds through lush rhododendron forests, sun-drenched terraced fields, and charming traditional villages inhabited by the Gurung and Magar communities, renowned across Nepal for their warmth and hospitality. A celebrated highlight of the route is the pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), which rewards trekkers with an extraordinary panoramic sunrise view over the entire Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges — a moment that stays with you for a lifetime.
The trail continues deeper into the sanctuary, passing through well-known settlements including Chomrong, Himalaya, and Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), before finally reaching the ultimate goal: Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130m (13,550 ft). Standing here, you are surrounded by a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of glaciated Himalayan giants, including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and the iconic fishtail peak, Machhapuchhre. On the return journey, trekkers can soak weary muscles in the soothing natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda — one of the most satisfying endings to any trek in Nepal.
